Block number two for me, is the Jay Campbell block. Though I wouldn't say that this block was any more technically difficult than the previous block, I did find the actual knitting much more slow and time consuming.
This square is knit in the round. You cast on the outer edge and work your way to the center. Each line of the pattern chart is repeated 4 times total in each round. And it is the multiple repeats, I think, that made the knitting feel so sluggish. I find that after the initial challenge of reading a line of the pattern is complete, I am disappointed when I remember that I've got to do it again three more times!
Before blocking I was not at all certain that my block was going to lay flat. I did not have the forethought to check and make sure that the US 6 circulars and the dpns were of the same millimeter measurement until after knitting was almost over. Alas, the dpns were 4.25mm and the circular was 4.00mm. However, blocking, as it often does, smoothed over the differences and I am happy to say that the block lies exactly flat.
As is my plan for every square, I used a provisional cast on. Nothing else special about this square, just that it took longer than I wanted it to.
