Kicks

I know, I know, I'm supposed to be working on my Afghan, but I knit these before my trip to the Midwest because it's cold there.

The pattern is "Felted Kicks!" from Blue Moon Fiber Arts purchased at Stitches East 2006

I knit my Kicks out of 1 skein of Ecological Wool from Cascade Yarns, double stranded.

About this pattern and the knitting thereof: it had good points and bad points.

Good points:
- lovely, lovely little slippers

- the pattern instructions are EXCELLENT, everything is detailed clearly and carefully

- the construction method is very clever and simple to execute

- the pattern creates double sole, which means they should last the test of time and not wear out quickly as you shuffle around the house

- the shaping of the front toe carefully placed short rows

- these slippers accommodate a very wide foot while still looking as cute as can be

- these babies knit up quickly

Bad points:
- the materials list does not give any helpful information to someone not using the recommended yarn and finding almost anything, including a picture of this yarn was almost impossible. My research revealed "Icelandic" is 250 yards per 8oz and is bulky weight.

- attaching the outer sole to the inner sole is a little tricky, I think they described it as well as possible, but you've got to have your wits about you when you orient your needles.

- for a slipper I felt that the Kicks didn't come up over the top of my foot as far as I would have liked. This is purely a comfort/warmth issue. I think if they came up farther that they wouldn't look as cute, so I just wear socks inside and I'm fine.

Overall:
On the whole, I LOVE these slippers. Resist the urge to wear your kicks while they're still wet, you'll get a more snug fit. I didn't and I think they're going to go for another ride in the washer as a result. I will definitely be making this pattern again, probably lots of times. However, I think next time I'm going to try to elongate the cuff so that they resemble a short boot. I'm also contemplating going to a cobbler and seeing if they could add a street-ready sole to a pair of these since they are so comfy and cute and fit my wide feet so well.

I highly recommend this pattern if you are looking for a cute, quick, and unique slipper pattern.
