Suzanne Atkinson Block

|

The Suzanne Atkinson block was very easy. Excepting the garter stitch border the entire pattern is one, large chart, which I have learned I prefer to several small charts. The background of the churchyard in the bottom half of the chart required careful attention to the pattern, but it wasn't difficult.

I have two complaints.

1) I wish the sun rays would have be constructed differently. The pattern has you knit tiny little i-cords, which you then attach to the finished block. I would have much preferred having it incorporated into the chart.

2) The cross should stand out more. The horizontal part of the cross on the steeple is sort of clear, but the vertical almost disappears. I think I may go back and duplicate stitch over the cross to give it a little more heft.

I also noticed during blocking that this block is on the large size. Most of the blocks have required a little bit of stretching or teasing to get to be 12 inches square. This one was more more like squishing the fabric to stay within the bounds of those measurements.

All in all, I felt like this block was very quick to knit. It's not my favorite in terms of finished look, but it's OK. They can't all be the loveliest.

Nice job on this Nina! I

Nice job on this Nina! I agree that the cross would look better a little more defined. Hope you have a nice time teaching tonight. We'll miss you.
